In this event, Professor Vincent Goossaert (École Pratique des Hautes Études, Paris) presented his influential book, Making the Gods Speak: The Ritual Production of Revelation in Chinese Religious History (Harvard University Asia Center, 2022). The book provides a profound analysis of the ritual techniques and historical trajectory of divine revelation practices in Chinese religion, with a particular emphasis on the tradition of spirit-writing.
We were also privileged to have Professor Elena Valussi (Loyola University Chicago) as the discussant. Her expertise brought additional depth to the discussion, creating a vibrant conversation about ritual, belief, and historical practices in Chinese religious history.
