Join us for an enlightening ISCSD Book Talk featuring Professor Vincent Goossaert (École Pratique des Hautes Études, Paris) as he presents his groundbreaking work, Making the Gods Speak: The Ritual Production of Revelation in Chinese Religious History (Harvard University Asia Center, 2022). This book offers a compelling examination of the ritual techniques and historical evolution of divine revelation practices in Chinese religion, with a particular focus on the tradition of spirit-writing.
We are honored to welcome Professor Elena Valussi, Senior Lecturer in History at Loyola University Chicago, as the discussant. Together, they will lead a rich discussion on the intersections of ritual, belief, and historical practices in Chinese religious history.
