Conference: Prophetic Women from a Global Perspective – September 13-14, 2024

The International Society for the Critical Study of Divination (ISCSD) is pleased to highlight an upcoming conference, Prophetic Women from a Global Perspective, taking place from September 13-14, 2024, at the Sally Barksdale Honors College Conference Room, University of Mississippi. This event, part of the Porter Fortune Fall Lecture Series, offers a fascinating exploration into the role of women in prophecy, divination, and charismatic leadership from both historical and contemporary perspectives.

The conference will bring together scholars from a variety of disciplines to discuss women’s prophetic practices across different cultures and time periods. Topics include female prophets, spirit mediums, shamanism, and the politics of conversion and revolt, providing rich insights into the gendered dimensions of divination and prophecy.

The conference is free and open to the public, with sessions also available via Zoom. For those interested in preparing for the discussions, participant papers can be accessed here.

We encourage all members of the ISCSD and scholars interested in the study of prophecy and divination to attend and participate in this exciting scholarly event. More details, including the Zoom link, can be found on the event poster.
