The International Society for the Critical Study of Divination (ISCSD) is excited to introduce a new initiative: the ISCSD Book Talk.
The ISCSD Book Talk aims to highlight the outstanding contributions of authors and editors within the “Prognostication in History” Book Series, published by Brill. Each month, we will host an engaging online discussion via Zoom. During these sessions, authors and editors will present their work to colleagues and the wider public, offering a comprehensive introduction to their books, from the inception of the idea to the final stages of publication. They will delve into the main themes, topics, and contributions of their work, discussing their motivations, research methodologies, and key insights. These sessions will also provide a platform for meaningful dialogue and scholarly exchange.
All authors and editors can present their work, host fellow authors and editors, or serve as discussants. This initiative not only aims to highlight the significance of the contributions but also seeks to facilitate interdisciplinary communication among scholars with shared interests in divination and prognostication.
Our inaugural Book Talk session is scheduled for late June, 2024, featuring Matthias Schumann and Elena Valussi, editors of the 11th volume, who will discuss their book, Communicating with the Gods: Spirit Writing in Chinese History and Society. Details of the event will be announced later on our website.
To participate and feature your book in our Book Talk series, please get in touch with Prof. Michael Lackner (michael.lackner@fau.de) or Gang Li (gang.g.li@fau.de). Your support and participation are invaluable in advancing the mission of the ISCSD and fostering collaborative scholarship in our field.
